Grand Final Fan Zone, Melbourne Park
We’re bringing a full retro gaming arcade to the Super Netball Grand Final Fan Zone. Real consoles, real cartridges, zero emulation – just the way you remember it. Whether you grew up mashing buttons on a Sega Mega Drive or you’ve never touched a d-pad in your life, our booth is built for everyone. Come for the netball, stay for a hit of pure nostalgia – and maybe smash a high score or two.
Every game, every console, every attempt. No coins, no tokens, just play.
No emulators, no ROMs. We run authentic consoles and game paks on CRT screens.
Tiny tots discovering Pac-Man, parents reliving their youth, and everyone in between.
Compete for glory (and small prizes) on our leaderboards across the day.
The game that needs no introduction. Arrange falling tetrominoes, clear lines, and chase that ever-faster drop speed that gets your heart racing. We have both the NES version on a big, glowing CRT screen and the iconic Game Boy edition ready in handheld form. Challenge a mate to see who reaches the highest level, or just zone out and find your flow. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran who still hears the music in your sleep or a first-timer discovering the magic, this is as pure as puzzle gaming gets.

Welcome to the 16-bit era of attitude and adrenaline. Blast through Green Hill Zone at supersonic speed with Sonic. Restore order to the city in Streets of Rage with a friend in two-player co-op. Grab a battle axe and slay giants in Golden Axe. Or settle rivalries in Mortal Kombat and see who can pull off Scorpion’s spear first. The Mega Drive section is fast, loud, and built for quick bursts of action between netball quarters. Grab a controller and feel that chunky D-pad under your thumb again.

Step into the worlds that built a generation. Jump, stomp, and warp-pipe your way through Super Mario Bros. on the NES. Then grab a sword and explore the sprawling land of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda. Over on the Super Nintendo, we’ve got Street Fighter II ready to go — pick your fighter, input that muscle-memory Hadouken, and prove you’re the king or queen of the couch. This corner is dedicated to Nintendo’s finest, from side-scrolling joy to competitive brawls.

Before polygons and surround sound, there was the click of a joystick and a single red button. The Atari 2600 is the grandfather of home gaming, and we’ve got the classics loaded: Pitfall Harry swinging over crocodiles, Space Invaders descending pixel by pixel, and the frantic missile-command defence of your cities. The graphics are basic, but the gameplay is brutally addictive. Perfect for a 5-minute fix between netball goals, and guaranteed to make you appreciate how far games have come — while secretly admitting they were just as fun back then.

If the Sega Mega Drive was raw energy, the SNES was pure artistry. We’ve got Super Mario World — arguably the greatest platformer ever made — running in all its colourful glory. Swing through jungles and ride mine carts in Donkey Kong Country, a game whose pre-rendered visuals still turn heads today. And we have a few hidden gems tucked away on our shelf, ready for anyone who asks nicely. Sit down, select a save file (or start fresh), and lose yourself in the lush, layered worlds that represent the very best of 16-bit design.

We’re sneaking a little bit of the late 90s into the mix. The PS1 brought gaming into three dimensions, and we’ve got a couple of its most social, smile-inducing titles ready to play. Race your mates in Crash Team Racing — power slides, fruit crates, and all — or step into the ring for a round of Tekken 3, where the character roster is deep and the combos are satisfyingly crunchy. This is the perfect station for groups who want quick, loud, head-to-head fun. Ask us what’s loaded on the day — we might have a surprise or two.
Buy NowWe open alongside the pre-match entertainment and keep running well into the evening. Catch the netball on the big screens, enjoy the live music, and when your hands need something to do between quarters, grab a controller and settle in. The fan zone will be buzzing all day – you can’t miss our pixel-art tent.

Absolutely. Every console and game in our tent is free to pick up and play, no tokens, no sign-ups. Just sit down and start.
Not at all. Our games are for ages 3 to 103. We have titles suitable for young kids and plenty for adults who remember them the first time around. All we ask is that under-12s have a parent or guardian nearby.
No bookings at all. It’s first-come, first-served. If a console is free, it’s yours. If someone’s playing, hang out and enjoy the atmosphere – turnarounds are quick.
Yes! We run mini-tournaments on the hour for certain games (Tetris, Sonic speed runs, etc.). Winners earn small trophies or bragging-rights certificates. We’ll also have a daily leaderboard with a grand prize awarded just before closing.
Yes! We love that. Bring PAL-region cartridges for NES, SNES, Mega Drive, or Atari, and we’ll do our best to set them up. We cannot guarantee all third-party carts will work perfectly, but we’ll certainly try.
Perfect. Our friendly hosts will show you the ropes in seconds. These games were designed to be picked up instantly. In 2 minutes you’ll be stacking blocks or collecting rings like a pro.
